If the College Park Cavalier Baseball team were a track team they would be known for their kick at the end. Continuing the uncanny ability to score late the Cavs take game one of the three game playoff series against the Spring Lions. Noah Vaughan’s walk-off single off of Ray Morales boosted the College Park Cavaliers to a 3-2 win over Spring on Thursday.
Vaughan paced College Park Cavaliers Official Varsity at the plate. Vaughan went 3-5 and drove in one. He singled in the first, seventh, and ninth innings. Tyler Mortenson baffled Spring, striking out 10 batters. Mortenson allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks over seven innings. Reliever, Nate Fisbeck got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He tossed two innings of shutout ball. Fisbeck struck out two, walked none and gave up one hit. Ray Morales was charged with the loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked two, struck out none, and allowed one run.
In the top of the third, Spring grabbed the early lead, 2-0. After Mark Haynessingled, Spring kept the pressure on College Park pitching, as Ray Morales homered, scoring Haynes. College Park scored one run in each of the fifth, seventh and ninth. In the fifth, College Park scored on an RBI single by Roosevelt Henderson, plating Aaron Perkins.
College Park and their large traveling fan base, will head south on I-45 to face Spring in game two of the series. College Park ace Beau Ridgeway is scheduled to take the mound, which is great for Coach Washburn since the Cavaliers will battle a team that is now facing elimination.
