Baseball: Vaughan, Cavaliers take game one with extra-inning dramatics, 1-0

imagesAround College Park, teammates call him Mr. Clutch, and in game one of the best-of-3 area round of the 6A Region-II playoffs, Noah Vaughan was just that in Mumford.

The senior outfielder provided the game’s only RBI hit, coming in the top of the eighth inning to help the Cavaliers defeat the Austin Maroons 1-0 on Thursday for a similar 1-0 series lead. College Park improved to 25-4 on the season.

Vaughan’s hit came off Maroon pitcher Matt Duke, allowing Cavalier Tyler Mortenson to cross home plate for the winning run. In the bottom half of the frame, closer Nate Fisbeck worked quickly to retire the side for College Park. click here for complete story
