Lake Travis struck first in a clash of Cavaliers.

Lake Travis took advantage of a combined two-hitter and several College Park miscues in a 5-0 victory at Mumford High. The Wednesday win gives Lake Travis’ Cavaliers a 1-0 lead in their third-round series with the Cavaliers from The Woodlands College Park.

Lake Travis (23-6-1) will attempt to put College Park (26-5) away in the best-of-three series on Friday afternoon. If Lake Travis is unsuccessful, the teams will return to Mumford on Saturday to decide who will advance to the Class 6A regional semifinals.

“I think we’re on Cloud 9 right now,” said junior pitcher Tate Sanford, whose team was a regional quarterfinalist in 2014. “We’ve just got to stick with it and keep it going.”

Lake Travis’ offense was stagnant over the first four innings, but the Cavaliers began to produce some runs in the fifth. click here for complete story
