In a move that’s long been coveted by Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, the UIL announced Monday the Berry Center will host the Wrestling State Championships in 2016.
The UIL is moving the event from the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland to Cypress. Prior to that, Austin hosted the event since 1999. This will be the first time Houston hosts the UIL Wrestling State Championships.
UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt on the move, according to a press release: “The Berry Center is an excellent venue that will allow the UIL more flexibility with the Wrestling State Tournament schedule to provide the best championship experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans.”
CFISD athletics director Ed Warken said plans to host the event had been in the works. The regional tournament at the Berry Center served as a test run of sorts the last two years. click here for complete story
