Baseball: Oak Ridge’s Baker named All-Montgomery County Player of the Year

Where do you start with The Courier’s All-County team for the 2015 baseball season?

It’s the final All-Montgomery County team we’ll be choosing until the fall sports arrive. When grass is being cut at dawn and bodies are being pushed virtually around the clock.

This 2015 All-County team, however, might be one of the greatest in this newspaper’s history. There have been plenty of outstanding all-star teams over the years in Montgomery County, but it’ll be tough to sell men on a better all-star team in ANY sport — top to bottom, especially — than The Courier’s 2015 All-County squad.

It all starts with the superlatives, and Oak Ridge’s Luken Baker, who was not only the county’s player of the year, but the state’s as well. Then, a few days before Oak Ridge faced Dallas Jesuit in the Region II-6A finals, the 6-foot-4, 255-pound Baker learned he had been chosen as the Gatorade National Player of the Year.
