Volleyball: The Woodlands sweeps College Station in opener

The defending two-time state champion Lady Highlanders kicked their season off with a 40-38, 25-19, 25-18 sweep of College Station, Tuesday night at The Woodlands High School.

In The Woodlands’ first game under new coach Terri Wade, the Lady Highlanders showed a great deal of mental toughness — edging out the Lady Cougars in an exciting opening set.

“That first set might have been the longest set I have ever been a part of,” Wade said. “I’ve never seen a game go to 40. But you know, it took a lot of courage to win that game. We may not have been consistent and [we were] a little unsure here and there, but we won. And to be able to play point for point and keep it going says a lot.”

Hailey Reier led the Lady Highlanders with 14 kills. She was followed by fellow senior Hannah Hickman with nine kills. click here for complete story and photos
