Conroe ISD educator remembers teacher who cared

After a fire tragically claimed the life of Sheri Broughton’s youngest brother in the late 1970s, her family situation quickly deteriorated.

Over the next two to three years, her father turned to drugs and became physically abusive. It showed when her and her brothers would go to school by the clothes they wore and how hungry they were.

“I was that kid,” Broughton said. “I tell my story because I want you to look at me and know that the kids that are coming to school who aren’t fed well, who seem like that things are stacked against them, that they have a chance. We need to show them they have a chance.”

Broughton, a second-grade teacher at Stewart Elementary, told her story last week at the Conroe ISD district professional staff convocation called “Celebrate Our Schools.” click here for complete story
