The Conroe Independent School District Board of Trustees gave special recognition to three students from The Woodlands College Park High School DECA, Hudson Attar (11), Kristoffer Nilsen (12), and Kenny Young (11), at the June Board meeting.
The Woodlands College Park DECA won first place in the Entrepreneurship Written Event for their business plan at the 2013 DECA International Career Development Conference and Competition held April 24-27 in Anaheim, California. The College Park DECA students qualified for Internationals by winning the State competition held in Corpus Christi in February.
DECA’s industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. DECA’s competitive events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school.
Sheryl Hime, Science Coordinator, will introduce both mentors to the Board of Trustees.
The competitive process involves students in both a written component, such as an exam or report, and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge. The first place winners produced a thirty-page business plan and presented it to two panels of judges.
Dr. Mark Murrell, principal of TWCPHS, introduced Julie Lowe, DECA Director, to the Board. Prior to introducing each of the students, Mrs. Lowe stated to the Board, “This is probably one of the most exciting things I have ever been a part of.”
