LeBlanc: Deer season demands preparations

Deer season is rapidly approaching and the annual preparations are starting to get serious. I know because I have been fine-tuning some loads and making sure my rifles are shooting perfectly and zeroed in where I want them — well, shooting as tight a group as I can hold, anyway — and I have had plenty of company at the range.

A few days ago, I was in a coffee shop having escaped from the world and its problems with a cup of dark French roast and there were some seasoned hunters sitting at a table nearby. They were expounding liberally on the subject of the best rifle for hunting white-tailed deer in Texas. Being nosey, I eavesdropped on their conversation as this is a never-ending subject for debate within the hunting community.
