Due to an unfortunate situation, The Woodlands didn’t end up where it wanted to last year, falling to fourth at state. But with plenty of experience back, it’s looking to finish stronger this season.
“We have a lot of people back,” coach Noel Hansen said. “We have a pretty veteran group.” Senior Madi McLellan, who fell victim to dehydration and didn’t finish the state meet last year, leads the returning group, which includes junior Abby Piontek, and seniors Kara Zuspan and Ashley Jansen. Senior Anna Lyons also returned, and much-improved senior Lauren Porter is running well. The Highlanders even have two freshmen, Lindsay Creasman and Emily Gonzalez, pushing for a top spot.
“We’ve been training well, they’re pretty clear on what they want to do, and we think we have a chance to win state, so they’ve worked really hard and we’ll see,” Hansen said.
