The Woodlands High School volleyball team took care of business on Saturday, sweeping Plano 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-7) to capture the Region II-5A championship at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum on the campus of Sam Houston State University.
The Lady Highlanders (43-0) advance to the UIL Class 5A State Championships for the second time in four years. Back in 2010 The Woodlands captured its first Region II-5A title and defeated No. 1 state-ranked Corpus Christi King in the state semifinals before falling to Lewisville Hebron in the state championship match.
“It feels awesome,” Lady Highlanders coach Leslie Madison said of returning to the state tournament. “I’m so proud of them. They were ready to finish it and claim it.”
The state tourney will be held at the Garland ISD Curtis Culwell Center. State semifinals matches will be played at 5 and 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, with the state championship match scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. click here for full story
