National Champs! Parade honors The Woodlands’ band, volleyball titles

The school’s marching band and volleyball team were both honored with a parade and ceremony at Central Park, complete with speeches from band director Joni Perez and volleyball coach Leslie Madison.

“We’re just so glad that everybody could be here to honor these awesome young men and women,” Perez told the crowd. “The Woodlands has always been a special community of students and parents and schools, and this is just a wonderful night for our kids to be able to celebrate with the community. We couldn’t be more proud to represent The Woodlands and Conroe ISD and the great state of Texas.”

The band earned its national title at the Bands of America Grand National Championships on Nov. 16 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Woodlands took first place with a score of 96.8 and also received awards for Outstanding Music Performance and Outstanding General Effect.
“These kids are the best kids in the world,” Perez said. “They worked so hard for so long, and the best is when they get rewarded for all of those efforts. This group has been an outstanding team this year.”
Less than a month after the marching band triumphed on the biggest stage, the volleyball team added a second national championship for the school.
The Lady Highlanders, who finished their season with a Class 5A state title and 45-0 record, claimed the top spot in the final MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Volleyball Rankings on Tuesday. click here for complete story and additional photos
