The District 14-5A track and field championships began on Tuesday at The Woodlands High School with the field events and the running preliminaries.
At the end of the day, though, most everyone was talking about the performance of Oak Ridge’s Trumaine Jefferson in the long jump.
Jefferson, a basketball standout for the War Eagles, got off a jump of 24 feet, 7 1/4 inches on his first attempt. “It was pretty amazing,” Oak Ridge coach Dennis Muehlstein said. “Unofficially, this mark puts Trumaine at No. 4 in the country at the moment.”
College Park’s Tristen Newman won the shot put with an impressive mark of 63 feet, 7 1/2 inches. The Cavaliers’ Jayvon Jackson was second to The Woodlands’ Adrian Piperi in the discus, finishing with a mark of 143-1. click here for complete story
