Atascocita’s boys track team is young this year, but Quan Shorts is making sure they stay on the map. The junior track and field newcomer posted a time of 10.99 seconds to win the 100-meter dash last week at the District 13-5A/14-5A area meet at Klein Memorial Stadium.

“It’s his first year ever to run,” coach Todd Symons said. He came from baseball, and he’s really focusing on football. He’s one of the top receivers in the area, so we’re getting him faster for football, really. But he’s a great kid, he works hard, and he’s just now learning how to run.”

Shorts, who’s in the top 10 in the region, won the Rice meet, finished top three at TSU and took second at the 13-5A meet, finishing behind Klein Oak’s Larenzo Stewart. At area, The Woodlands Patrick Carr, another football star, was two-hundredths of a second behind Shorts at 11.01, making for a thrilling finish. click here for complete story
