Soccer: The Woodlands’ Covarrubias wins 14-5A MVP award

5358766e9d28d.imageThe Woodlands’ Primo Covarrubias and Conroe’s Collin Smidt helped lead their teams to the Region II-5A semifinals. For their efforts, the seniors were bestowed top honors by District 14-5A coaches.

Covarrubias won the league’s Most Valuable Player award while Smidt, the Tigers’ goalkeeper, was named the Defensive MVP.

The Highlanders reached the regional tournament for the eighth time in nine years. Conroe made the trip to Round Rock for the first time since 1997 and finished 21-4-2.

The Woodlands junior Bubacarr Jobe earned the nod for league Offensive MVP and Hans Kleinschmidt was Coach of the Year. Jobe scored 28 goals as the Highlanders finished 21-1-1. click here for complete story
