Track & Field: Highlanders girls win regional track championship

The Woodlands girls claimed the Region II-5A track and field championship Saturday in Waco.

622x350 (70)They scored 88 points to hold off second-place Allen (70 points) and sweep the district, are and regional meets for the second straight year. Senior Madi McLellan won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 56.71 seconds, finishing nearly 5 seconds ahead of the second-place runner from McKinney Boyd, sophomore Aaliyah Miller (5:01.24). McLellan and senior Kara Zuspan went 1-2 in the 3,200, with McLellan winning in 10:39.24. Zuspan finished in 10:53.16.

 


Award finalists: The John Cooper School boasts six senior athletes who are finalists for the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe’s Mike Ogg All-Montgomery County Scholar of the Year.


SPC championships: The Dragons also have teams headed to the SPC championships this weekend in Dallas in baseball, softball, track and field and tennis.
