The Woodlands took another step toward the state tournament on Thursday night, as the Lady Highlanders held on to defeat Rockwall 14-9 in Game 1 of the Region II-5A finals at Baylor University.
“It was a marathon game,” The Woodlands coach Richard Jorgensen said. “The long bus ride up, a three-hour game … A lot of offense.”
The Lady Highlanders finished with 16 hits to claim the victory. Abby Langkamp pitched a complete game, overcoming a tough start as Rockwall built an early 2-1 lead. The Woodlands improved to 37-3 with the victory and will try to sweep the best-of-three series in Game 2 on Friday night at Getterman Stadium in Waco. Rockwall dropped to 27-7-1 with the defeat. click here for complete story
