The National Fastpitch Coaches Association is proud to announce the 48 players chosen for the 2014 NFCA High School All-America softball teams.
North Carolina’s Alexander Central, the top-ranked team in the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25 Poll, tied with Bridgewater-Raynham (Mass.), Deer Park (Texas) and Pearland (Texas) for the most players honored, with three apiece. Meanwhile, No. 18-ranked The Woodlands of Texas, No. 20 Immaculate Heart Academy (N.J.) and Washburn Rural (Kansas) each scored two selections.
In all, 37 schools are represented on the three 16-player All-America squads.
The Woodlands was the only school with multiple players on the first team, with Ally Langkamp one of the four pitchers and shortstop Aubrey Leach one of two at-large selections. Junior Langkamp went 26-1 with a 1.69 earned-run average, 184 strikeouts and only 35 walks over 156.2 innings this season, while fellow junior Leach batted .589 with nine doubles, eight triples, six home runs, 49 runs batted in and 51 stolen bases.
Three-time All-American Steph Thomas of Immaculate Heart and fellow New Jersey product Devin Durando of Indian Hills, plus Kiana Millsaps of Alexander Central were the other first team pitchers. Senior Thomas, who previously earned third (2013) and second team (2012) recognition, was the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year after going 31-2 with a 0.40 ERA, 295 strikeouts and just 17 walks over 191.2 innings.
