Gerald Irons III was named 2014 Most Valuable Defensive Lineman on JV level of the Houston Select Football League after spearheading a defense that allowed just 7.6 PPG to opposing offenses.
Irons III, a 5’10, 198 lb. 7th grade defensive end for the Houston Outlaws, recorded 7 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, 1 fumble recovery and 5 forced fumbles to go along with 66 tackles on the season while leading the Houston Outlaws to a 9-0 record and state championship victory. The honor comes just one year after the 7th grade Irons, III was named to the Second Team Defense as a 6th grader.
“It is truly a blessing to win that award because it shows all my hard work and dedication paid off,” Irons III said. “At the beginning of the football season I set a team goal to win back to back state championships and a personal goal to become the best defensive lineman in HSFL and it all came true. I feel honored, thankful and blessed to win this award.”
The class of 2019 defensive standout credits his quickness off the football and strength as keys to his success, but admits he could improve the use of his hands in order to reach his full potential as a pass rusher. more…
