Atascocita softball coach Jim Grotenhuis, who turned the Lady Eagles into a powerhouse team, died Monday night of an apparent heart attack.

“We are all shocked beyond belief,” said Humble ISD co-athletic director Krista Malstrom, who spoke to Grotenhuis as recently as 5:30 p.m. Monday. “I’ve never met a man or a coach more passionate about softball than him. He absolutely loved the game. He lived and breathed it.”
