Volleyball: College Park shakes off jitters, finishes strong to beat Klein Collins

College Park coach Candice Collins said last week she was looking forward to starting the season with a matchup against Klein Collins.

Her sentiment was that the Lady Tigers would provide a solid level of competition for the Lady Cavaliers before they head off to the Texas Volleyball Invitational in Pearland this weekend. Klein Collins took control early, but College Park pulled out a 24-26, 25-22, 25-18, 25-13 victory in its season and home opener Tuesday evening in front of a packed house.

“I think that Klein Collins played outstanding,” Collins said. “They really came out strong. I don’t think that we were anticipating that, but I’m really happy. That’s what we wanted. We wanted a good team to push us to open up the season and for it to be exciting.”

Kennedi Smith led the team with 16 kills and five aces, and Emily Thorson added 16 kills to go along with 13 digs. Hannah Erwin paced the attack with 36 assists and led the Lady Cavs with 14 digs. click here for complete story, video and additional photos
