Mix of education options has been key to growth in The Woodlands

The Woodlands’ original master plan included new public schools, as well as land saved for private schools to allow families choices in education. Forty years later, enrollment at schools throughout The Woodlands has stabilized, and construction of new school buildings has nearly reached its peak.

Conroe Independent School District has built 19 schools in The Woodlands, adding its last one, Deretchin Elementary School, in 2005. “I think in The Woodlands we’re built out now,” said Superintendent Don Stockton.

The largest of those new schools and the biggest change for CISD was adding a second high school, The Woodlands College Park High School in 2005, which added a second feeder zone for the district, Stockton said.
