UIL full legislative council will meet Monday to vote upon recommendations

UIL-Logo (1)States superintendents and athletic officials met for roughly seven hours Sunday, discussing an assortment of issues and proposals. The full legislative council will meet Monday to vote upon recommendations made by the UIL on Sunday.

Football: Beginning in 2015, football teams in Class 6A will have extra incentive to win their respective districts. District champions will have home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs if the University Interscholastic League’s Legislative Council approves it Monday. Under the new plan, the higher seed will have the option of playing at home. The can also mutually agree to a neutral site.

Here are some highlights from Sunday’s meeting:

Water Polo: Despite having four people speak on behalf of adding water polo as a UIL sport — including former Stanford All-American Brenda Villa — it did not receive council support Sunday.

Javelin: The UIL athletics committee agreed to “study” a proposal to add javelin to track and field meets.

Ice Hockey: A proposal to add ice hockey as a UIL-sanctioned sport failed.
