Batters for Oak Ridge didn’t need to do much on a chilly Friday night against Caney Creek because the Panthers did most of their work for them in the second game of the War Eagle Classic.
On the back of an eight-run first inning, the War Eagles quickly put away Caney Creek via the mercy rule, winning 13-0 in five innings.
“It was a good and quick, and I’m glad it was because it’s cold,” said Oak Ridge coach Mike Pirtle. “This was a good opportunity to get some kids in once we got some runs early.”
The floodgates opened in the bottom of the opening frame as Panther pitcher Gunter McDonald had trouble finding the strike zone. The starter yielded five walks and two hit batsmen, and the War Eagles scored eight runs, seven of them earned. click here for complete story
