The biggest annual arts event between Houston and Dallas takes place in Montgomery County, Texas every April. It is called The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival (WWAF). Because of its growing popularity (which now includes “top artist sales in Texas and 3rd in the country,” according to Art Fair Source Book) and to celebrate their 10th anniversary, The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival will expand from two to three days, running April 10, 11 and 12.
A major Festival attraction will be the exhibits of over 200 accomplished artists from 33 US states, 19 Texas cities, and the countries of Canada and Israel. The range of artwork represented includes clay works, digital art, drawing/pastels, fiber, glass, jewelry, metal works, mixed media 2D and mixed media 3D, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and wood. Vickie McMillan is the only professional artist from Montgomery County juried into this year’s Festival. Two other artists from Montgomery County have been selected as part of the “Emerging Artists” exhibit at the Festival. They are Wendy Lane from Conroe and Dan Martinez from The Woodlands. Two five-person teams of judges, one for two-dimensional and one for three-dimensional artwork, have selected this year’s Festival artists. The two panels of judges included ten of the most knowledgeable visual arts practitioners, scholars and arts administrators from Conroe, Galveston, Houston and Huntsville.
