Strengthened by struggles, The Woodlands set to open extended postseason campaign
It wasn’t always pretty, but The Woodlands is in the playoffs.
The Highlanders picked up a key win against Summer Creek last week to help them clinch the fourth seed in District 16-6A, setting up a one-game bi-district playoff at 7 p.m. Thursday at Klein.
“We had an outstanding run last year, when people picked us third or fourth in the district and we were able to win the district championship (and make the area playoffs), and this year we had pretty much one starter back with Chris (Andritsos),” coach Ron Eastman said. “And you had three teams … with the strongest teams they’ve ever had in school history, so it was the perfect storm for us.
“The kids worked hard all season and kept grinding. It would have been real easy for them to quit, when we got down with a losing record, but they continued to fight and grind, and I’m just real proud and happy for them that they were able to accomplish our goal of getting in the playoffs.”
Eastman called their 7-0 win over the Bulldogs, who finished one game behind The Woodlands in 16-6A, the Highlanders’ most complete game of the season. click here for complete story
