Baseball: The Woodlands Highlanders win thrilling upset over top-ranked Klein 2-1

After winning the coin flip, Woodlands Coach Ron Eastman push all of his chips to the middle of the table and choose a single elimination game format against the District 15-6A Champions Klein. The bet – his four year varsity starter Chris Andritsos could tame the #1 ranked Klein Bearkats.

After the game Coach Eastman left Bearkats stadium with a pocket full of house chips.

The Woodlands Highlanders beat the Klein Bearkats 2-1 Thursday behind both the bat and the arm of Sr. Chris Andritsos. With eight strikeouts The Highlanders picked up the road victory. Andritsos allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks over the complete game seven innings. Andritsos reached base twice, but the third inning insurance homer was the hit of the night.

The Highlanders held off Klein, as Klein was unable to overcome a two-run third inning deficit. Klein scored one run in the seventh on a solo home run by Kevin Roliard. Still, Klein couldn’t catch The Woodlands. Sr. Christian Tripp couldn’t get it done on the hill for Klein, taking a loss. He lasted just three innings, walked none, struck out five, and allowed two runs.

The Highlanders never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring one run on a solo home run by Zach Gartner.

The Highlanders advance and await the winner of the Austin Bowie – Hendrickson playoff game.
