Even though the cast has turned over completely since their last playoff series, the battle was much the same for Belton and The Woodlands in their Class 6A Region II softball semifinal as it was when they last met four years ago in the same round.

Thus far, unfortunately for the Lady Tigers, the result is pretty much the same.

Belton was unable to convert on critical scoring opportunities and came up short, 3-2, to the Lady Highlanders in the series opener at Mustang Stadium in Mumford. Game 2 will return to Mumford at 5 p.m. today with a third to follow if the Lady Tigers win.
