The season didn’t end how The Woodlands hoped.
The Woodlands senior pitcher Abby Langkamp was another in what has become a string of elite players to come through the Highlander program under the leadership of coach Richard Jorgensen.
But the fact that it made the state tournament after returning last year – only three years removed from the national championship season – speaks volumes about their sustained level of excellence.
“It was a fantastic season,” coach Richard Jorgensen said.
“I told the girls after the game you don’t ever want it to end that way (with an error-filled loss in the semifinals), but putting in perspective what this group, and especially our seniors, has done is pretty amazing.
“They’ve been to the regional finals four straight years and to the state tournament twice, (and played) 41 playoff games in four years. That’s more than some teams play in regular-season games in two years.”
This year’s team came together in the playoffs.
