Boys Basketball: Westfield exploits Highlanders defensive gameplan, TWHS eliminated

The Woodlands guard Kyle Spears, right, and forward A.J. Bullard reacts after back-to-back three-pointers by Westfield in the first half of a Region II-6A bi-district basketball game at Tomball High School Tuesday.

They say the best plans often go astray. No sentiment was truer Tuesday night as Westfield exploited The Woodlands’ defensive game plan, hitting 11 3-pointers on its way to a 74-55 UIL Region II-6A bi-district win at Tomball High School.

“It was a tough game, and whenever you lose in the playoffs it hurts, but you got to give credit to Westfield,” The Woodlands coach Dale Reed said. “Very proud of our guys — they really battled and had a good first quarter. We just missed too many shots early on that got us into a hole.”

Westfield was led by Darius McNeal and Kobe Shorter, who each poured in 20 points and combined for 17 rebounds. But Reed was expecting the pair to have a good game. He wasn’t, however, prepared for Cory Holt to have a cheat-code-like performance. click here for complete story
