Atascocita went from five wins in coach Craig Stump’s first season to 10 wins last year, along with a trip to the regional quarterfinals, and spring practice played a key role in the team’s development. It’s even more important this year. The Eagles are young, with only four starters back on offense and five on defense, so there’s a lot of work to do to prepare for the fall.

“It’s very important,” Stump said. Spring practice is important for a lot of reasons. One, you’re always replacing positions, and I don’t want to go into August not knowing who those people are going to be. You find out the answers in a good way, that, yes, he’s going to be able to fill that spot, and sometimes you find out in a bad way, where guys you thought were going to be able to do something maybe aren’t there yet.”
