Seaweed gone wild – Why are Texas beaches covered in ick?

784x2048 (1)Since spring, Texas beaches have struggled to cope with record amounts of seaweed washing onshore. Stinky, rotting mats of sargassum disgust tourists, and they appear to put the endangered green sea turtle in even greater peril.
