Baseball: Oak Ridge tops Kingwood Park with big fifth inning

According to coach Mike Pirtle, Oak Ridge has been making good contact at the plate over the past two games. But the results of those at-bats just haven’t been there as the War Eagles have scored a combined three runs in games against Kingwood and Conroe.

Oak Ridge pitcher Chris McDonald throws during the fifth inning a baseball game against Kingwood Park Saturday.

That trend changed drastically on Saturday afternoon as Oak Ridge (9-6) used a big fifth inning to capture a 6-3 come-from-behind, non-district victory over Kingwood Park (9-7).

“The last couple of ballgames, we’ve really hit the ball well and made outs,” Pirtle said. “I told them, ‘One of these days, there’s going to be a couple of hits that will open everything up.’ Sure enough, we got a couple of hits, and everything just started to domino. I think we just relaxed.” click here for complete story
