Baseball: College Park tops Oak Ridge in back-and-forth affair, 3-2

The College Park Cavalier and the Oak Ridge War Eagles exchanged the lead five times on Thursday, but College Park ended up on top with a 3-2 win in seven innings over Oak Ridge.

College Park pulled out the win thanks to strong pitching and timely hitting. College Park went up for good on a single by sophomore shortstop Travis Washburn. Washburn boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 2-2 day at the plate to pace College Park.

Starting pitcher Nick Pischulla, got the win for College Park. He allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered four hits. Chase Burchett played fireman for the Cavs, entering in the bottom of the sixth with one out and a man on third. A swinging strikeout and ground out ended the Oak Ridge threat. In the seventh the Cavs handed the ball over to their dependable closer Luke Trahan who recorded two strikeouts.

Tyler Davis, had a solid outing but took the loss for Oak Ridge. He lasted seven innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed three runs.

College Park jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second. College Park got things going when Luke Trahan singled. College Park got one-run rallies in the fourth inning and the sixth. In the fourth, College Park scored on an RBI single by Washburn, scoring Pischulla.

Oak Ridge scored one run of its own in the fourth. Oak Ridge scored on an error.

On Tuesday Mar. 29 College Park will travel to Summer Creek to face the Bulldogs & Oak Ridge will host The Woodlands Highlanders in a crosstown match up.
